JOMAD & ANDREW met in Paris in 2020. Since then, they have painted over 30 murals together internationally—France, Belgium, USA, UK, Spain and Greece. JOMAD, French-Caribbean painter from the island of Martinique with roots in Graffiti specializing in portraiture. ANDREW AGUTOS, Filipino-American artist from California with a background in Fine Art working in various styles and mediums. The diversity between this artist-duo is reflected directly in their work. With clashing undertones of classical figuration and abstraction inspired by each heritage—topics of family, culture and community are tackled and emphasized in an energetic blend. This assembly of knowledge based on human values constitutes all of their work.
Studio Meanwhile and City Blocks has the privilege of working from the unceded territories of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō (Sto:lo), Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations, also known as Vancouver, British Columbia. While this is our local home, we recognize that our work extends into the global realm of public space and has an impact on contested, politicised lands that have been and continue to be stewarded by many different and distinct local groups. It is our intention to help elevate these spaces in respectful and honourable collaboration with those who inhabit them, to further our mission to make public space available and accessible, for all people.
